Fort Lauderdale sits directly on the Intracoastal Waterway. There are a large number of connected rivers and canals that can provide a full day of great sightseeing, 300+ miles in fact. It’s no wonder why we’re called the Venice of America. You can get almost anywhere you want to go by boat, whether it be restaurants, homes on the water, vacation hot spots, beaches and sandbars. If you really want to see the best of Fort Lauderdale it’s a great idea to rent a boat, and if you’re not comfortable driving the boat, pick a boat charter company that includes a licensed Captain that is familiar with the area. Our Captain’s know the Fort Lauderdale waterways like the back of their hands. Here are some great places to explore on your Fort Lauderdale boat charter adventure.
The Intracoastal waterway
This is the Fort Lauderdale area’s main highway for boaters. It's by far our busiest waterway. Along its shores are a beautiful and diverse collection of private homes, condos and resort hotels. As you enjoy the cool breezes, you'll see some of the biggest yachts in the world. After all, this is the Yachting Capital of the World.
Fort Lauderdale Sandbar
The Sanbar is party-central for boaters in Fort Lauderdale, especially on the weekend. You'll find a wide selection of boats music and fun. At times it's a self-contained party hub, with food vendors, games and non-stop action. If you want to see Fort Lauderdale's wilder side on the water, this is the spot.
Whiskey Creek
Whiskey Creek is part of the Dr. Von D. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park. The mangrove-lined waterway is a scenic place to swim, paddle board, observe bird life, and take photographs. It’s also perfect for a day at the beach or a family picnic.
New River
This is the central waterway in Fort Lauderdale, and one of the best ways to see our city. You will marvel at the homes and yachts of the rich and famous through Millionaire’s Row. As you twist and turn through our beautiful city, you’ll see why we’re called the Venice of America. Stop and have a drink or a bite in one of our many waterfront restaurants, explore Riverwalk, do a little window shopping on Las Olas Boulevard.
